Meet Kat De Falla

Visiting with me today in My Writing Corner is paranormal mainstream and romance author, Kat De Falla.  Her newest book is The Seer's Lover.
Kat, how did you get started with your writing career?

I’m been a writer since I had a coherent thought. I composed my first poem to my best friend in grade school. I made my 7th grade teacher cry laughing at my autobiography. And Shakespeare in high school cemented my love of the English language. After a few deviations from the path, I finally put fingers to computer in December 2009 and started my first novel, The Seer’s Lover.

When did you know you wanted to be a writer?

There is no “want”. I think writing is like having a bladder infection (sorry, I’m a pharmacist!) Pain, burning, itching, frequency…pain if you keep the words inside you, burning to get the story told, the itch to stop whatever else you are doing and TYPE, and having the discipline to frequently write words, that turn into scenes, that turn into chapters, that turn into novels. J

As a working mother, in a family you describe as a real life Brady Bunch,  how do you find the time to write?

I could nothing without my supportive husband!

Tell us about The Seer’s Lover. It sounds fascinating.

 Here is the blurb:

For years, Calise Rowe has been able to sense unusual energy from people, making her believe she is different.  Pulled into an ancient war raging for centuries between demon hunters and seers, she's about to find out she's right.

Her search for the truth leads her to Lucas Rojas, a seer of angels and demons who walk the earth shrouded from normal human eyes.  He's hidden his gift for years and refuses to endanger Calise by sharing it with her.

In the sultry Costa Rican Jungles, their worlds collide.  As their passion and desire ignite, so does the ancient war between demons and seers.  Will their combined efforts be enough to save themselves and the entire human world, or will their new found love be their downfall?

How did you come up with the idea?

I was working in the pharmacy late one night and an older gentleman came in speaking broken English. He grabbed my hands and told me, “They are all around us! Be careful! I was meant to come in here and tell you this and you will never see me again!”

That really happened! And I never did see him again, but this became part of the opening scene of The Seer’s Lover.

What a great story. What are you working on now?

 Wow, where do I start?

  1. I’m actively writing book 2 of The Seer’s Lover
  2. A sequel to my book, First Contact which is soon to be released by Crescent Moon Press with my writing partner, Rachel Green.
  3. I just finishing and am trying to sell my middle grade fantasy.
  4. I am half way done with a contemporary romance.
  5. And I am a few chapters into a pure sci-fi!

That sounds like you are a very busy writer. Are there any words of wisdom you would like to share with beginning writers?

Be yourself. “Imitation is the highest form of flattery. But imitation is all that it is.” --Anonymous

Good advice. Where can readers find you online?

  2. Kat - only a pharmacist could call wanting to write like having a bladder infection! Brilliant, yet it totally describes how it feels. I wish you lots of luck with The Seer's Lover and all your other projects - wow, and you have a day job, too :)

  3. Kat - I think I would've ran out of that pharmacy and never returned. You're smart and brave and a very prolific writer. Here's wishing you much success.

Fighting the Mid-Story Blahs

It happens to all fictional writers. Sooner or later we hit the wall with our current story and we suffer through that old, well-known, fear...
